Persepolis Rising: Technology & Devices

Persepolis Rising is here with lots of new information.

This is the sixth in a series of lists on topics that need articles. This is a list of articles in the "Technology" or "Devices" category.  The full list of categories for Persepolis Rising can be found here.

Want to help update the articles? Great!

In the category of technology, there was

  • Laconian Power Armor
  • USM field projector also described as ultra high magnetic field projector
  • Laconian wrist monitor
  • Laconian orbital platforms
  • protomolecule stem cell grafts used to immortalize Duarte

Is there something missing? Is there a more precise and accurate name/description?

Sample Chapters Released for Persepolis Rising

Although James S.A. Corey / Daniel Abraham tweeted a link to hachette group books' website to announce the release of a couple of chapters, it is the overdrive site that offers us more!!

Four and a half chapters as well as the Prologue and the Table of Contents.

From this we learn the viewpoint characters but more surprisingly, we discover the over 30 year time leap!

Persepolis Rising starts after more than 30 years elapsed following the bombardment of Earth by Marco Inaros' Free Navy as described in Nemesis Games

Idea [Transclusion or Brief of distinct character incarnation articles included into disambiguation page]

I'll keep it short:

I had an idea for a restructuration of TV-Books sister articles. Instead of linking them through the {{tabs}} template, we could turn the related disambiguation page into the actual page documenting the two incarnations by summoning the two subpages within a tabber (see Jim Holden).

Of course, I'm going to need your opinion on this. So, what do you think? Should we stick to our current way of separation and linking, or should we use a tabber instead?

Novel Favorites - Best scenes and characters

Reddit sister-post here

Hi, everyone! Many of you here took part in the Season Two Favorites survey, which concluded roughly three months ago. Among many, only three characters and scenes reached the podium, while only one was declared the victor (for each section). The experiment was fun, and it will return next year after the conclusion of Season 3.

Now, how about a similar survey for the novels? Tell me here the best 50 (maximum) scenes and characters that appear between novels one (Leviathan Wakes) and six (Babylon's Ashes) that you think would deserve to compete against each other for the title of the best scene/character in the whole written series so far. Full guidelines | Manual of style

Full guidelines have finally been established for this wiki. They can be found here. The general policies can be found here. I urge all of you to read both pages thoroughly and, from now on, respect the rules established there. Also, please edit all articles that violate these guidelines and uplift them to a state where they are faithful to the manual of style.

Do you have a suggestion regarding the improvement of the guidelines and policies? Do not hesitate to leave your idea here.

Warning: The policies and guidelines will never cease to be updated, so make sure to re-read them from time to time.

Wiki background and front page

Hi, everyone!

I'll be short: there are two issues that keep bothering me.

One: The wiki background image. The current one is... yeah. Do you have any ideas for a good one? Or, better yet, could you create one?

Two: The front page. It seems... incomplete. I mean, aesthetically, I wouldn't give it a perfect 10, even though it is better than that of 99.99% other wikis. Do you have any ideas for possible improvements?

Follow-up: After that shadow add-on, it does look closer to reaching 10.

That's all.

Have the best of days,
MysticalArchAngel

Mathematics Formatting

After seeing the article on Travel Time (maligned format) and, honestly, wanting to vomit, I figured pointing out the mathematics option in editing would be a good idea. I've since realized it's nicely available as a button in the classic editor, so the tags are certainly well known to everyone here.

So whenever we have any extensive usage of math – be it variables, numbers, or full equations and expressions –it should be rendered with LaTeX's math tags and not with code tags. However, there is a caveat for this wiki. Inside the math tags, one should include:

{\pagecolor{black}\color{white} ...... },

with the LaTeX code in place of the ellipses. This will set the PNG output to white text which will be transparent unless the pagecolor is set as well (the page color remains transparent even when set). For those not familiar with LaTeX , the opening and closing braces are creating an environment in which the colors will apply; probably not needed, but always a good practice.

The only problem is the size of the PNG created and embedded. I'm not sure how to fix this, but it doesn't appear to be an issue on Wikipedia or the Math Fandom Page . Having the math slightly large is a bit odd, but not nearly as much as an eye-sore as the plain-text code font; plus, other options are just amerturish, anyway.

Since there is already the math buttons, I don't see any need for a template considering the rare circumstance in which the wiki will require any actual math. However, if we get the size of the rendered math fixed, then the code will be complicated enough that a template will be a good idea, IMHO.

Do we want to do something to promote Net Neutrality?

See the idea I proposed on WoWWiki... Change WoWWiki's "Community name" to "KEEP NET NEUTRALITY!" vote.

A name change will only live for a few weeks. It is not permanent.

Here's a poll (please vote; here's a good article on Net Neutrality):

The poll was created at 17:32 on July 17, 2017, and so far 3 people voted.

→ See this reply for what "Keep Net Neutrality! Here's How To Be Heard…" means.

I figure the change could go into effect sometime Saturday (July 15), if voting favors it by sometime Friday (July 14). The public comment period to the FCC ends August 17. Here's one way of putting teeth behind your words of support: Submit Letter

New guidelines (again)

I thought about the restructuration of the TV character page template. Instead of the repetitive "In <Episode name>", we could use second level sub-headings. See Diogo Harari for the example.

If you all do agree, please commence transitioning all TV character pages to the new format.

New guidelines

Hi, everyone!

I have noticed one mistake in particular that keeps persisting: the bolding of the article's name even after the introductory phrase (i.e. The United Nations is...). I ask of you that you bold the name only at the beginning and never thereafter.

Another issue would be the frequent discrepancies between the novel series and its TV adaptation that often lead to two subsections being created to explain the events of the two series. I was thinking, why not use a tabber instead? Check the Arboghast's page, for example. A tabber works better, IMO. What about you? What do you all think?

Should we use two subsections or a tabber for historical discrepancies?

Season Two - Favorites! [Open until May 13, 2017]

[LINK TO SURVEY AT THE END OF THE POST]

Now that Season 2 has concluded in an epic finale, it is time to decide what we - the fans - liked most about this second part of this awesome story. What characters did you prefer? What scene gave you most goosebumps? The fans shall dictate the best of the best.

To decide that, a survey was created, which is comprised of two sections:

  • Section I, which deals with grading the most prominent scenes of Season 2 from 1 to 10, where 1 represents an absolute bottom, implying that nothing could be worse, and 10 is the ceiling of the scale, representing perfection.
  • Section II, which deals with grading the principal characters from 1 to 10.

The final result will represent the arithmetic mean of all grades given by fans, rounded up to two digits.

The final results will be displayed here, on the wiki, and on Reddit, on May 21, 2017, at around 10:00 GMT.

What character/scene do you expect will win? Leave your thoughts here!

VOTE NOW HERE!
P.S. This survey will return after the conclusion of each season, but modifications will be operated accordingly.

[Please read] Overabundant trivia

The Trivia section of several pages includes certain "facts" that I deem unnecessary for the readers of this wiki. For example, up until I removed them, the United Nations page included facts about the current status of the UN. That was not trivia in relation to the TV series/books' UN. That was a summary of the UN's wikipedia page. This is not the sole example. Many episode pages include, just like the UN page did, excessive information that our readers would not find interesting. Take "Caliban's War", for example. Information was added regarding the procedure used by the VFX team for rendering the disassembly of the Arboghast. In my honest opinion, that is far from being classified as necessary information.

Here is what, from now on, is to be added in the Trivia section:

  • Inconsistencies;
  • Cast credits errors;
  • [!] Interesting facts, which could include, for example:
    • how the title of an episode relates to the episode itself;
    • explanation of interesting episodic titles (such as "Caliban's War", "Leviathan Wakes", "Abaddon's Gate", etc.);
    • facts about appearing characters (i.e. died after X episodes, etc.);
    • incosistencies about character biography, etc.

P.S. Not related to the debated subject, but please, check your punctuation! For example, you, Nemo2012, have been spotted placing a comma between the subject and the verb of a sentence (for example: John, has died or The governor, did not like that, etc.). This is grammatically incorrect. However, you're not the only user to misplace a comma. That is why I am asking that you be more careful when you contribute.
