Deceased is fine. BTW, you can't "join" categories per se. You just have to delete the tags from articles, put the new one on and delete the old category pages.

Yup, I was aware. It's actually far more fatiguing than most anticipate.
I was thinking it'd go smoother if our noble admins would just write a script that did the job. I don't think anyone else can actually delete a category.
If not, that's the manual process I'd expect to have to wrestle with.
Dead or Deceased are equally good to me. The word "Deceased" is considered more delicate terminology to fluent speakers I suppose. Not sure that other languages make such a distinction
Going through with the intent to get the transition started or at least create a baseline,....
It struck me that this might be a case more than with all the other tags where we have a need for a "(Books)" variant and a "(TV)" variant as in
"Category: Deceased (Books)" and "Category: Deceased (TV)"
Yeah, unfortunately you may be right.
Should I set up a poll for this? With choices like:
Once we decide I can work on a bot to make the change.
Unfortunately, I already started switching some characters so at the moment, we have three competing categories. I'd like to get this settled and fixed quickly if we can.
P.S., Also, we might consider using the category sorting feature. wherein when you specify the category, you also choose the sort for that category's page. I think it might be of interest to consider the Deceased sort as the book and chapter or as the episode number which effectively would sort ordered chronologically date of passing. We can take this into account now or defer it.
