keting

Adverb[]

keting

  1. (interrogative) what?; which thing?

Etymology[]

ke (interrogative morpheme) + ting "thing".

For the first component, it probably comes from Haitian Creole ki (what; who, which), present also in interrogative pronoun kisa (what) as a prefix. Use of an interrogative prefix is present in Creole languages as Farmer confirmed. Haitian Creole ki derives from French qui ("who, whom; which, that"), from Latin quī. Compare also Spanish qué and que; Italian che, chi and cui; Romanian cine and cui; Portuguese quem and que; and also French que.

For the second component, it comes from English thing. Compare Danish, Norwegian and Swedish ting; German Ding; Dutch and Afrikaans ding; Icelandic þing; and Scots hing.
