Lt. Sutton is the commanding officer of the MCRN Scirocco. He is Bobbie Draper's commanding officer.
Overview
"Safe"
In a briefing aboard Scirocco, Sutton shares intel from MCRN Donnager's Lt. K. Lopez's helmet cam footage revealing the remains of some scientists at Phoebe station. The bodies are burned then frozen but any on-site records have been wiped from computer systems. Sutton emphasizes to Bobbie Draper that they don't have proof of the meaning nor proof of the culprits, despite what she has heard. He had lost friends on Donnager just as she had. Their mission is to deploy ground teams and to secure the site until a new investigative team arrives. Along the way, the UNN Nathan Hale appears to be very persistent with the objective of arriving in advance of the MCRN Scirocco, which Sutton interprets as attempting to cover up whatever is there. Rather than allow that, Sutton fires missiles at the station obliterating it along with the entire Phoebe moon. Sutton must repeatedly inform Draper that their overarching objective is to avoid war. He still hasn't convinced her since she believes Mars needs to let that war happen and get it over with before they can realize the dream of terraforming Mars.
"Static"
Sutton must respond to the physical altercation within Draper's quad. Despite her evasiveness, he is able to ascertain the roots of the problem are prejudices against Pvt. Travis' non-native Martian status and the tension over Earth's elimination of Deimos. Sutton remarks that Travis is more Martian than the rest of his squad for his loyalty to that squad and his declining to implicate them in the assault on him.
"Paradigm Shift"
Whilst onboard the Scirocco over Ganymede, communications with the ship's Marines on the planet's surface were jammed causing confusion thus leading both MCRN and UNN forces to each believe that the other had engaged them. Lt. Sutton was determined to get communications back online. However, combat erupted between the two fleets causing damage to the Scirocco and several solar relays caught in the crossfire. Although the ship survived, he was killed on Scirocco with 11 others during the Ganymede incident.
